Sept. 11: Happy Birthday Miss Mamie - Safari Texas’ 8th Annual Salute to Fort Bend will honor the late Mamie George, benefactor extraordinaire to Fort Bend County. This birthday gala will celebrate her 93 years of kindness and generosity, which had a lasting impact on thousands of Fort Bend County residents. Safaritexasballroom.com.

Sept. 19: Fort Bend Cultural Festival - The Fort Bend County Museum Association presents the first annual “Celebrate!” cultural festival. Families can celebrate the diverse heritage of the Fort Bend County community —including the Hispanic, German and Czech cultures. Fortbendmuseum.org.

Oct. 17: Couture for the Cure - Couture for the Cure is an evening of fashion and design benefiting the American Cancer Society. A fabulous style show produced by Lenny Matuszewski will be held at the home of Drs. Shelena and Ayeez Lalji. For info, e-mail kkwest@westfirm.com.

MISSOURI CITY MAYOR ALLEN OWEN
The Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce State of the City Address was presented by Missouri City Mayor Allen Owen, the city ’s 10th mayor, at Sugar Creek Country Club. Hundreds of community leaders attended the event and heard upcoming plans for the city, which just celebrated its 53rd Anniversary and now is home to nearly 70,000 residents.

LITERACY COUNCIL’S WINE & MUSIC
The Sugar Land Marriott was transformed into the look and feel of the islands at the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County ’s 19th Annual Wine and Music event, Tales of the South Pacific. Everyone raised their glass to honorary chairs John and Diana Null, while enjoying tastings from area restaurants and listening to the beat of The Billie Ledbetter Orchestra.
