Fort Bend County Fair
Fort Bend County Fair goers will have their choice of superstar country performers this year for the two final events of the fair on Oct. 2 and Oct. 3. And, what a choice it is —between bad boy and performer of nearly half a century David Allan Coe and relative newcomer Aaron Watson, who gives God credit for his rapid rise in the country music industry.
Both stars are songwriters as well as performers, and both put on a heck of a show. In addition to Coe and Watson, other headliners include Stoney LaRue, Jack Ingram, Grupo Vida, Casey Donahew and the Texas Unlimited Band, with lots more bands appearing throughout the 9-day fair. Whatever type of country music you like, you ’ll be able to find it at the fair.
In addition to the fair and rodeo, the Grapes on the Brazos event returns for its second year. The fair begins Friday, Sept. 25, and runs through Saturday, Oct. 3. Grapes on the Brazos will be open every day. There will be many new and exciting wine choices from Texas, California and around the world. The wines will be available by taste, glass or bottle. Grapes on the Brazos also offers gift items, wine infused jellies, appetizers from various vendors and souvenir glasses.
The newest event this year is the first annual Fair Prince and Princess for 4-6 year olds, Fair Duke and Duchess for 7-9 year olds and Junior Fair Queen for girls ages 10-14. All contestants must be a resident of Fort Bend County. Judging will be based on personality and western attire. A winner and four runners-up will be named in each category.
Meanwhile, the competition for Fair Queen is in full swing. Contestants chosen in August will compete through Fort Bend County Fair Day on Sept. 25 based on ticket sales and interview and style show performance. Queen contestants, who are between the ages of 15 and 19, receive scholarships and prizes. The winner will serve as community ambassador for the fair for the coming year.
Opening Day events include the parade at 9 a.m. and the carnival, which opens at 10 a.m. The AG ’tivity barn opens at 1 p.m., and student Fun Day activities run from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at the fair office or online at www.fbcfa.org or at the gate during fair hours.
Even if you’re not into country music or fair queens—and what kind of Texan isn’t—you can still come to the fair for the rides, food and exhibits. It’s a fun, family time for everyone. You won’t want to miss it!
