YMCA Adventure Guides Now Registering
Looking for a way to celebrate family, nature, community and plain old-fashioned fun with your kids? Then the YMCA Adventure Guides ™, an exciting parent-child experience, may be for you. This life-changing program is an enhanced and updated version of YMCAs ’ earlier, time-honored Indian Guides and Indian Princesses parent-child programs. Infused with the YMCA ’s five character values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith, the program is a great way to spend more time with your kids and have fun too!
Six weekend campouts at local State Parks and Camp Cullen, crafts, activities like scavenger hunts and other outings are just a small part of what the program is all about. The Father/Son and Father/Daughter program is designed to foster companionship and understanding between father and child ages kindergarten through eighth grade. The program provides a wholesome atmosphere with fun and adventure that draws on activities that emphasize family values and respect for the environment.

The American Cancer Society will feature fashions from TOOTSIES in its upcoming fund raising event, “Couture for

Natural Science will include four permanent galleries reflecting the most popular exhibit areas of the main museum campus, each illustrating required science topics for Texas schools.
In addition to permanent exhibitions, the 43,000-square-foot building and the surrounding 5.5 acres of land that house HMNS at Sugar Land will present a variety of compelling traveling exhibitions.
Upon entrance, admire Science on A Sphere, a giant animated globe, and watch as complex environmental processes unfold above visitors in vivid detail. Under the Sphere, the articulated skeleton of a large Tyrannosaurus rex welcomes guests. Learn about the amazing variety of life on Earth in the Hall of Life Science and see a collection of living frogs, featuring the aptly named Giant African Bullfrog, the exotic Amazon Milk Frogs and an array including Giant Monkey Frogs, Surinam Toads and many more.
Then, explore the Hall of Earth Science—an unparalleled array of amazing geological wonders. Massive amethyst and citrine geodes taller than a person, filled with gleaming purple and golden crystals, are displayed among an array of huge mineral specimens. Nearby discover a cave of fluorescent minerals in every size and color.
Finally, visit a small introductory version of the Hall of Space Science, where you will discover wonders of the night sky as seen through the Eyes of the Hubble Space Telescope.
The Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land will also offer a variety of daytime classes and weekend scout programs.

This premier event will be held on Oct. 17 at 8 p.m.

What’s Up in your Sugar Land Neighborhood? Oct. 1, 5, 8
Have you ever wondered what goes on at city hall? Do you know your city council representative or how they make decisions? What ’s the latest in your city council district? Find out by attending upcoming District Town Hall meetings to be held from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
District 2: Thursday, Oct. 1, at Sugar Creek Country Club, 420 Sugar Creek Boulevard;
District 1: Monday, Oct. 5, at the Sugar Land Community Center, 200 Matlage Way;
District 3 and 4 (combined): Thursday, Oct. 8, at Sugar Land City Hall, 2700 Town Center Boulevard North.
The District Town Hall meetings offer council members and residents a chance to meet and talk in person about what ’s happening in their respective districts. During “Open Mike” residents can ask questions, express concerns or provide input on various topics. Key staff members will be on hand to answer questions and provide information specific to the district.

Fort Bend County Fair,

If you haven’t taken in the Fort Bend County Fair, there is still time. Attendees will have their choice of superstar country performers this year for the two final events of the fair on Oct. 2 and Oct. 3. And, what a choice it is —David Allan Coe and relative newcomer Aaron Watson.
There are many new and exciting wine choices from Texas, California and around the world at The Grapes on the Brazos. The wines are available by taste, glass or bottle. Grapes on the Brazos also offers gift items, wine infused jellies, appetizers from various vendors and souvenir glasses.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at the fair office or online at www.fbcfa.org or at the gate during fair hours.
Even if you’re not into country music, you can still come to the fair for the rides, food and exhibits. It ’s a fun, family time for

The Clothesline Concert, Oct. 10, 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Join the Fort Bend County Women’s Center, government officials, community leaders and Fort Bend friends and neighbors for an evening of great music by the Drywater Band and educational awareness of the presence of domestic violence in our daily lives and what each community member can do to stop it.
Concert in the Plaza, Oct.16, 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Watch as the Weston Brown Band, a uniquely refined four-piece band with catchy melodies, signature guitar leads and heavy harmony influences, entertains in the plaza.
Pumpkin Decorating Workshop, Oct. 23, 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Pick out a pumpkin to decorate from the Plaza Pumpkin Patch. The workshop is limited to the first 250 children.
Jaguar Car Show, Oct. 24, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The Jaguar Club of Houston’s Annual Concours D’Elegance show is brings fabulous cars to Town Square.
