Pecan Park Estates wins Dreyer’s Neighborhood Salute. Dreyer’s Ice Cream hosted its Slow Churned Neighborhood Salute ice cream party contest,
and the award-winning New Territory community (Pecan Park Estate subdivision)
was selected as a grand prize winner out of hundreds of thousands of
neighborhoods from across the nation.
A Pecan Park Estate resident submitted an essay to Dreyer’s, nominating the community and explaining why Pecan Park Estates should be
selected to win a summer block party for friends and neighbors.
FBJSL RECEIVES 2009 FLO BERKMAN AWARD FROM RAINBOW ROOM. The Fort Bend Junior Service League was presented with the 2009 Flo Berkman
Award at the 10th Annual Flo Berkman Award Luncheon, hosted by Fort Bend
Community Partners Rainbow Room.
FBJSL was honored for its contributions to the agency through the direct service
provided by league members as well as the financial support provided from the
Pancakes
& Pajamas Children’s Festival.

slam dunk for celebration of champions event. More than 300 supporters joined Houston Rockets legend Rudy Tomjanovich for Texas Children’s Cancer Center benefit “Celebration of Champions” at the Hilton Americas. Honoring Dr. ZoAnn Dreyer, who heads the center’s long-term survivor program, the luncheon and fashion show featured runway
strutting by pediatric cancer survivors, their families and caregivers.
Sidney Faust, Judi McGee and Scott Basinger served as co-chairs for the event and Channel 11 news anchor Lucy Noland was mistress of ceremonies.
The enthusiastic crowd included cancer center director Dr. David Poplack, Sofia Tomjanovich, Don Faust, Alicia Smith, Kimberly DeLape, Victoria Osteen, Jay and Linda Comeaux, Emily Crosswell, Janet Walker, Ann Stern, Butch and Carmen Mach, Lynn Baird, Laura Walls, Ned Torian, Shelly Barineau, JoAnn King Herring, Lilly Andress, Lisa Schumate and Clifford Pugh.

literacy council. The Sugar Land home of John and Diana Null was the site of a Hawaiian-style luau complete with a whole roasted pig,
tropical music and festively dressed guests.
Chef and author Nick Castleberg provided the roasted pig, while the sides were supplied by Whole Foods Market,
Sugar Land. This event raised over $4,000 for the Literacy Council of Fort Bend
County.
Fort Bend Junior Service League Cookbook Offers Inspiration for Thanksgiving. Inspiration for Thanksgiving and other family gatherings can be found in the
league
’s recently released cookbook, Treasures from the Bend, Rich in History and Flavor, presented by St. Luke’s Sugar Land Hospital. Hearty fall recipes such as pumpkin spice bread, pork
chops in bourbon caramelized onion sauce and fudge brownie Kahlua Trifle can be
found in the cookbook. Cookbooks retail for $27.95 and can be ordered online at
www.fbjsl.com. Cookbooks will also be available at FBJSL’s Sugar Plum Market on Nov. 6-7 at the Stafford Centre Performing Arts Theatre
and Convention Center.

TEXAS EXES GATHER FOR LONGHORN FOOTBALL GAMES. Baker St. Pub & Grill in Sugar Land’s Town Square has become the official Longhorn football game watching spot for
the Fort Bend County Texas Exes.
The restaurant and pub has plenty of flat-screen TV’s that provide perfect view of every touchdown, tackle and game-changing moment.

fbjsl pancakes & pajamas beneficiaries. The third annual Pancakes & Pajamas Children’s Festival, presented by the Fort Bend Junior Service League and Texas Children’s Hospital, will be held on Feb.6 at The Honor Roll School in Sugar Land. The
theme for this event is
“Wacky Wonka and the Pancake Factory” and is sure to provide adventure and fun for the entire family.
The 2009 event raised $31,000 for Fort Bend charitable organizations, and with
the generous support of community sponsors, Pancakes
& Pajamas hopes to raise even more money in 2010. The proceeds from the 2010
event will benefit East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry and Fort Bend Lawyers
Care.
East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry is a nonprofit organization that addresses
the basic human needs of Fort Bend families and senior citizens. Its primary
program is the Interfaith Food Pantry, which provides uninterrupted services to
thousands of local residents. EFBHNM also provides financial services to assist
during times of crisis with housing, utility and medical expenses.
Fort Bend Lawyers Care is a nonprofit organization that provides pro bono legal
services to low-income citizens by coordinating a process to allow volunteer
attorneys to accept legal cases of qualified clients. FBLC further provides
annual walk-in legal clinics to assist citizens with a variety of legal issues
including family law, consumer, landlord-tenant, probate and estate planning
matters.
