trio formosan concerts
Trio Formosan, “the chamber music trio with pizzazz,” has a spring 2009 series of concerts. This Houston-based trio has assembled an
eclectic repertoire of captivating and absorbing music to please everyone with
the genius of Leonard Bernstein
’s Trio for Violin, Cello and Piano to Butterfly Lovers, a violin concerto adapted to piano trio by Olive Chen, the trio’s cellist. Mixed in is the enchanting The Formosan Trio, composed by Tyzen Hsiao, a renowned Taiwanese composer.
Taiwan born, Chia-Wen W. Bonbright, pianist, Johnny Chang, violinist, and Olive
Chen, cellist, had all charted their own respective list of admirable musical
accomplishments prior to assembling Trio Formosan.
Concerts are scheduled for May 1, 7:30 p.m., at the Annex Theater, Houston
Community College Stafford Campus, and May 15, 7:30 p.m., at Bethany Christian
Church, 3223 Westheimer Rd.

leaf presents surf’s up
It’s time to get your annual check-up of fun as OakBend Medical Center once again
presents Surf
’s Up, School’s Out.
The dinner, dance and auction will be May 1 at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds.
Dinner will be served from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a live dessert auction
following. The dance starts at 8:30 p.m. with entertainment by everybody
’s favorite local band, The Triumphs. Funds raised will underwrite educational
grants benefitting Lamar CISD campuses through the Lamar Educational Awards
Foundation.
Individual tickets are $25, which includes a chicken-fried steak dinner catered
by Vincek
’s. Tables for groups of 10 can be reserved for $250. For ticket information or

national day of prayer
Many churches, businesses, schools and communities observe National Day of
Prayer with prayer events.
Organize events at your school, church, business, community, and plan to attend
events being observed for this year
’s National Day of Prayer on May 7.
Locations at this time include: Sugar Land, noon, Town Square; Stafford, noon,
City Hall;
Missouri City, 10 a.m., City Hall; Richmond, 6 p.m., Courthouse; Arcola, 3 p.m.,
City Hall. The goal is to have many more events around Fort Bend County.

Fort Bend Boys Choir Spring Concert
Celebrate the spring season and upcoming summer vacation by attending the Fort
Bend Boys Choir
’s Spring Concert on Saturday, May 16, 7 p.m., at Williams Trace Baptist Church
in Sugar Land. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.
Four choirs–Training, Town, Tour and Cantabilé (alumni choir of changed voices)–will be showcased as they celebrate this year’s theme, “Traditions of Music … From a Boy’s Heart.” Come and hear some of the most talented boys in Fort Bend County.

The Fort Bend Regional Council on Substance Abuse Inc., a nonprofit organization
dedicated to providing drug prevention programs for thousands of students each
year in Fort Bend County schools, announced the fifth annual Fort Bend
Corporate Challenge bowling tournament themed
“Get on the Right Track” and all things trains. So pack your bags; your adventure is just around the
next bend.
“Get on the Right Track,” sponsored by Union Pacific Railroad Company, will be held on May 2 at AMF
Stafford Lanes located at 4919 South Main from noon to 3 p.m. During the event,
guests will experience life on the railroad while enjoying a two-game
tournament and a barbecue lunch. Local companies are encouraged to sign up and
build their bowling team to compete for the coveted Crystal Cup and the 2009
Corporate Challenge Title. Last year, Schlumberger took the title and will
return this year in effort to recapture it.
Proceeds from the challenge support FBRC’s youth prevention programs, such as Summer Explosion Youth Leadership Camp and
Red Ribbon Week.
Participation starts at $500, which includes two games for a four-member team
and lunch. Additional non-bowling guest entry is $25. For more information,
