The Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce and the George Foundation Youth in Philanthropy
(YIP) students held a volunteer project at Brazos Bend State Park on Feb. 2.
This first-year event was a huge success with 150 high school students from the
Fort Bend area helping with various projects around the park despite the bitter
cold temperatures.
YIP is a program of the George Foundation in partnership with the Fort Bend
Chamber of Commerce that encourages high school students to learn about the
importance of volunteering and engaging in philanthropy in their community.
The Brazos Bend State Park Project was held with the support of YIP student
leadership teams from Fort Bend ISD, Calvary College Prep, Lamar CISD,
Needville ISD and Stafford MSD
|
representing 18 different Fort Bend high schools. The students worked in groups
to clean up brush and help the park rangers improve the ranger station.
Dee Koch with the George Foundation said, “The park project was a great opportunity for the YIP students, Fort Bend County
residents and the park. The students had a great time meeting their fellow Fort
Bend County peers and making a difference at Brazos Bend State Park for all
future visitors.
”
The event was a huge success—thanks to the hard work of the YIP students, their peers, volunteers, those who
donated and the partners who helped support the event. A big
“thank you” goes to the partners: Brazos Bend State Park, Minute Maid, the Fort Bend
Chamber of Commerce and the George Foundation.
