TelfairLife Charity of Your Choice Walk
Proceeds of April 10 event to benefit 14 area nonprofits
Charities throughout the nation have been suffering from decreased donations due
to the economy, but Fort Bend residents can make a positive impact on their
community and enjoy a healthy activity at the same time with the third annual
Charity of Your Choice Walk at Telfair.
Benefitting 14 Fort Bend area charities, the 5k Charity of Your Choice Walk will
be held on Saturday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Telfair community in
Sugar Land. City of Sugar Land Councilwoman Jacquie Chaumette will serve as
master of ceremonies.
Registration fees are $25 for adults and $10 for children, with 100 percent of
fees donated to each walker
’s charity of choice. In addition, TelfairLife will donate
$20,000 to the winners of several challenges, such as the charity that
pre-registers the most walkers.
Four new charities have been added to the list of beneficiaries, including
Brazos Bend Guardianship Services, Fort Bend Family Promise, Fort Bend Regional
Council of Substance Abuse and Pregnancy Resource
Center of Fort Bend.
Returning charities include Asians Against Domestic Abuse, Child Advocates of
Fort Bend, East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, Fort Bend Community Partners
Rainbow Room, Fort Bend Education Foundation, Fort Bend Family Promise, Fort
Bend Habitat for Humanity, National Alliance on Mental Illness
Fort Bend, Second Mile Mission Center, Shape Up Sugar Land and The Arc of Fort
Bend County.
The Charity of Your Choice Walk will take place rain or shine at Telfair Central
Lawn, located in front of the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land
in Telfair. The walk will begin
and end at this location on University Boulevard.
“In its first two years, the Charity of Your Choice Walk raised over $100,000 for
Fort Bend charities. This year, with increased demand for the services provided
by all of these worthy nonprofit groups, we hope to set a new record,
” said Kiva Mann, community coordinator for TelfairLife.
TelfairLife is funded and operated by
homeowners in the Telfair master-planned community to support social, cultural,
charitable, environmental and educational endeavors in Telfair and the
surrounding Fort Bend community.
This colorful balloon arch served as the finish line for walkers at last year’s TelfairLife event.
