ort Bend Junior Service League’s upcoming cookbook, Treasures from the Bend, Rich in History and Flavor will be arriving soon. Honored as Fort Bend County’s Official Cookbook and generously underwritten by St. Luke’s Sugar Land Hospital, this beautiful hardbound book highlights several of Fort Bend County ’s community treasures with attractive photographs and interesting historical facts such as “Sugar Land Regional Airport’s history traces back to 1952 when Dr. Donald “Doc” Hull landed his bi-plane in a cow pasture near the state prison farm.”

League members and local celebrities submitted the 280 recipes selected for the book. Each recipe was tested a minimum of two times for accuracy and flavor, so you can be assured that you will find many new family favorites. FBJSL president Brigit Engleman added, “Treasures from the Bend is far more than just a flavorful collection of recipes. Our members have put together a unique book that also captures snapshots of history from all parts of Fort Bend County through its beautiful photographs and well-written copy. We are certain that the community will discover a wonderful treasure in the league ’s second cookbook.”
Proceeds from cookbook sales will benefit Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, a vital program in the community that serves more than 1,000 meals each day in Fort Bend County. Since 1974, FBS has been committed to helping seniors remain independent by enhancing their quality of life through comprehensive services and programs, which include Meals on Wheels, congregate meals, transportation, recreation, case management and information and referrals. Senior citizens 60 years of age and older who are unable to safely prepare their own meals are eligible to receive hot, nutritious meals at home, six days per week. The Fort Bend Junior Service League is honored to assist this worthy organization in its efforts to serve seniors in the community.
Join St. Luke’s Sugar Land Hospital and FBJSL at the cookbook kick off celebration at Sugar Land Town Square on Oct. 15. Town Square has graciously agreed to provide the live entertainment, and Amici will be preparing some restaurant favorites for the evening. It is sure to be a great time, so mark it on your calendar now.
You may reserve your copy of Treasures from the Bend, Rich in History and Flavor now by e-mailing cookbook@fbjsl.com or by placing an online order at fbjsl.com. Cookbooks are $35.45, including shipping and handling. Your treasured copy will be mailed to you in early October. l
