Sugar Land Outstanding Citizenship Awards and 15 Girl Scout Gold Award Projects - Fifteen Senior Girl Scouts of Monarch Colony Service Unit received the
Outstanding Citizenship Award from
Mayor James Thompson at a city of Sugar Land City Council meeting.
Receiving Gold Awards are: Tarah Jones and her volunteers found a need and created a special crime victims room for
children at the Brazoria County Courthouse.
Annie Lord designed an “Awareness to Action Campaign” committed to bettering the lives of those with Down Syndrome, with available
medical treatments and proper education.
Stephanie Madden held an Irish Culture Booth at Sugar Land’s International Festival and educated the public about aspects of Ireland, such
as dance, food and fashion.
Carolyn Mao’s project addressed the issue of homeless and adopted dogs. She worked with CAPS
and created pamphlets about pet care for new owners and discussed these issues
with area children.
Amanda McGuire helped a family that adopted three special needs children by creating a ramp
walkway from the driveway to the front door a large concrete

patio in the back yard for them to play outside. Sabah Noorani spent her summer teaching three children’s classes on PowerPoint and 13 classes to adults on several aspects of computer
basics at the First Colony Library.
Katie Rose held workshops daily for one week for children in the summer in an elementary
school in San Pedro, Belize.
Kylie Saunders’ love for the YMCA Camp in Colorado moved her to help out when the camp suffered
a major Mountain Pine Beetle attack, which destroyed a majority of their trees.
She led fellow counselors to replace 60 trees, created informational posters
about the Mountain Pine Beetles and held informational workshops about what
could be done to help revitalize the forest.
Stephanie Schirber and her volunteers repainted the kitchen and dining hall at the Behavior
Treatment and Training Center in Rosenberg and also made activity packets to be
used by 20 children.
Allison Seward held a Reading Awareness Day at Burleson Library during one of the library’s summer programs. She created a summer program for the children and held
storybook reading times with guest readers.
Madeline Smith honored basketball Coach Grafe from Clements High School who died of leukemia.
An artist painted a portrait of the coach and then she organized a
student/faculty basketball game in Coach Grafe
’s honor and held a blood drive. Courtney Stone held workshops she designed for children to learn five songs and music theory,
connecting it with three Bible lessons. Taking them to multiple shut-ins to
sing and perform let the children understand how much singing is appreciated.
Caroline Suter worked with volunteers to repaint rooms at the Rosenberg Pregnancy Resource
Center of Fort Bend County.
Lauren Vernon implemented a two part project in Reyonosa, Mexico, and Richmond, Texas. In
Reyonosa, Lauren tested local residents for diabetes and taught diabetes
prevention workshops. At the Fort Bend Family Health Center, Lauren designed
and taught a 20-week healthy lifestyle class. To complete the Gold award in the
summer of 2009,
Sue Anna Yah is working with Fort Bend Family Health Care Center to promote healthy eating
and nutrition.

Rosenberg Masonic Lodge No. 881 Presents Scholarships and Awards - The Rosenberg Masonic Lodge No. 881 selected Dr. Thomas Randle as the 2009 recipient of the Rosenberg Masonic Lodge Community Builder Award for
his outstanding service as Superintendent of Schools of Lamar CISD.
As part of the awards program, the Lodge presented five $500 Mirabeau B. Lamar
Scholarships to graduating seniors from Lamar Consolidated High School, Terry
High School, Foster High School and Needville High School. Scholarships were
awarded to
Saba Amin, Irving Alcantara, Cara Bretz, Catherine Stanley and Kirby Jan.
Amy Lemos, a kindergarten teacher at Austin Elementary, was also honored as a 2009 outstanding teacher. Lemos was
presented with a $200 award for use in her classroom.
Dr. Thomas Randle, recognized by the Rosenberg Masonic Lodge #881 as the 2009
recipient of the Rosenberg Masonic Lodge Community Builder Award, is pictured
with scholarship winners Irving Alcantara, THS; Cara Bretz, FHS, Catherine
Stanley, FHS; and Kirby Jan, NHS. Not pictured are Saba Amin, LCHS, and Austin
Elementary teacher Amy Lemos.
Future Daisies Earn First Badge - Girls entering kindergarten or first grade in the fall and their parents
joined Monarch Colony Service Unit Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council for a fun
afternoon of crafts, singing and refreshments for future Girl Scout Daisies to
earn their first badge, the Considerate and Caring green pedal on a Daisy
uniform.
Their coloring pictures were sent to a retirement housing establishment and the
canned goods were delivered to a local food pantry.

Pack 1401 Donates to Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity - Cub Scout Pack 1401 of Sienna Plantation and part of the Tomahawk District and
Sam Houston Area Council donated $500 to Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity.
The Cub Scouts sold tickets to their annual Blue and Gold banquet and raised
$500.
The check was presented to Sharon D. Heldt, executive director of Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity, at their annual picnic.
The funds will be used to construct a home for a qualified, low income family.

tournament debut at the First Colony Little League Memorial Day Madness
Tournament .
