Sugar Land Cradle of Texas Chorus Helps Set Guinness World Record. Sweet Adelines International set the Guinness World Record for Largest Singing
Lesson. The record-setting event coincided with the 63rd annual International
Convention and Competition held at the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tenn.
Cradle of Texas member Carol Teufel participated in the achievement of this ambitious feat.
Music professional and past Sweet Adelines International Quartet Champion Peggy Gram led the lesson by demonstrating inspiring techniques for integrating the voice
into the art form. The venue was filled with immense sound as 6,651 singers
practiced the demonstrated techniques and sang simultaneously for the duration
of the 10-minute lesson.
Guinness World Records official adjudicator Danny Girton Jr., presided over the certificate ceremony to validate the record and confirm that
the achievement met the criteria set forth by the organization

The real highlight of the evening, however, wasn’t in the lights and adornment. It was from the generous support of the attendees
who raised over $94,000 for inaugural American Cancer Society
“Couture for the Cure.”
Event chair KK West was humbled by the response. “This event was a success because of the overwhelming support we received from
our sponsors, donors and volunteers,
” said KK, who chaired the event with husband Scott West. “Too many people have been afflicted with cancer and it was heart-warming to see
so many come together in support of the American Cancer Society. The money we
raised will go a long way in continue the fight against cancer.
”
The American Cancer Society is the largest source of private, nonprofit cancer
research funding in the nation. Research funded through The Society has reached
a multitude of milestones, including therapies to inhibit tumor growth, factors
contributing to an increased chance for cancer and effective drug treatments
for specific cancers. In addition to funding research, The Society also
provides free educational programs and various support services for cancer
patients and survivors.

benefiting the National MS Society, Lone Star Division with friends, family and
co-workers.
Members of “D Bomb Squad” raised more than $3,000 in Danielle’s name, a chart-topping number for the event which raised almost $20,000 for MS
research.
Among the 30 or so people there to show their support for Danielle were Bruce Mercer, Bank of Fort Bend president; Amy Marsters, vice president and loan officer; and Ron Bickers, board member.

Restaurant Week Check Presentation. To celebrate the success of Sugar Land Town Square’s first-ever Restaurant Week, participating Town Square eateries gathered to
present Fort Bend Cares with the proceeds from the promotion.
Restaurant Week provided diners the opportunity to take advantage of
three-course menus offered for $25 at select restaurants. Five dollars from
each meal was donated to Fort Bend Cares.

FBJSL Seeks Scholarship Applicants until feb. 15. The Fort Bend Junior Service League is offering two scholarship programs to
assist women in Fort Bend County who desire to further their education.
The FBJSL Volunteer Scholarship applicant must be an outstanding Fort Bend
female high school senior who has completed at least 100 hours of high school
community service, has a minimum GPA of 2.5 and desires to pursue higher
education in the 2010-11 school year.
The FBJSL New Beginnings Scholarship applicant must be a Fort Bend woman who has
a specific degree or career advancement goal in mind and who has had a break of
at least three years in her education following high school graduation,
completion of her GED, or last full-time semester at an accredited college,
vocational school or university.
Qualified scholarship applicants can obtain an application at www.fbjsl.com. The deadline to submit applications is Feb. 15. The scholarships are valued at
$1,000 each.

Emileigh Kim Kohutek of Casper, Wyo., became the bride of Charles Scott Hebert Jr. of Casper, Wyo., in a double-ring ceremony Oct. 24, 2009, at Salado
United Methodist Chapel in Salado.
The bride is the daughter of John and Mona Kohutek of Salado. The bridegroom is
the son of Scott and Janet Hebert of Richmond. Retired Pastor Joe Bentley
officiated. Music was by Janice Chisholm, pianist, Harker Heights.
Given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a one-piece, strapless, full
A-line gown with lace-up closure. Beaded embellishments flourished throughout
the bust and created glistening dual bands edging the ruched bodice. Luminous
satin was softly caught up throughout the voluminous full A-line skirt.
The maid of honor was August Kohutek, sister of the bride of Salado, and Mary
Hayden McGregor of San Marcos. Matron of honor was Dori Williams of Kodiak,
Alaska. Bridesmaids were Katie Hebert, sister of the groom, Austin; Emily Fyfe,
Katy; and Fallon Collier, Dallas.
Best man was Chris Morton of Austin. Groomsmen were Mark Pearce, Sugar Land;
Jeff Kappes, Sugar Land; Matt Fontenot, San Antonio; Justin Calderon, Sugar
Land; and Cain Kohutek, brother of the bride, Austin.
The flower girls were Avery Jarvis and Jaycee Spears and the ring bearer was
Preston Etter. Seating guests were Chris Spears-Lumberton and John Puzyk, Katy.
The bride is a graduate of Texas State University with a degree in
Interdisplinary Studies, Cum Laude. She is a first-grade teacher.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Texas State University with a degree in business
finance. He is employed by Halliburton Energy Services.
The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents at Old Salado Springs Celebration Station in Salado.
A reception followed the ceremony at Jack’s Barn in Salado. After a wedding trip to Cabo San Lucas, the couple now resides
in Casper.
