ou may have heard her song Entertainment in the movie Paul Blart: Mall Cop or her single Heartbeat on TweenPopRadio.com. But, if you haven’t heard of her, you soon will. She’s Fort Bend’s own rising star, Jessica Ferguson, a multi-talented, highly-enthusiastic
musical entertainer.
The daughter of Shannah and Gary Ferguson of Missouri City, Jessica, 19, won’t be “Fort Bend’s own” for much longer, however. Jessica is on her way to Hollywood and what she hopes
will become a successful career crossing all genres
—music, dance, acting, and her first love, musical theater.
Jessica will probably achieve what she dreams, too, because she’s determined, passionate and driven. These intrinsic traits are only a few
things that set her apart from others her age. Jessica also has a mission
beyond success and fame. She wants her performances to inspire, entertain and
put a smile on the faces of her audience.
Jessica loves teens and preteens, particularly middle-schoolers, she says. In
September she will begin doing school tours
—performing her music, but taking time during the concert to inspirestudents to
learn to work together, to encourage each other and not put each other down.
“Establishing my sound, capturing what girls experience and being able to send
out a real message to help them in a song is my desire.
”
“Middle school was hard for me,” Jessica says. “I can totally relate to what they are going through at that age. I want to
foster them to achieve their goals and do their best.
” Jessica attended Fort Bend Baptist Academy in Sugar Land from elementary
through middle school and home-schooled during her high school years.
“I started to get more serious about my music, and home-schooling enabled me to
have time to participate in training in voice, acting, dance and theater. I got
|
involved with the Humphrey School at Theatre Under the Stars and with the
Tribble School for Performing Arts at the Masquerade Theatre in Houston,
” she said.
In Hollywood, Jessica will continue her training in acting, voice and dance. She
will also begin working on her first album with producer Andrew Lane.
“I have been privileged to work with some amazingly talented people starting from
the very beginning at Cynde Lomonte
’s Dance Dimensions in Missouri City, then working with TUTS and Masquerade
Theatre and attending the Broadway Theatre Project in Tampa, Florida,
” she said. “From working with people like Ben Vereen and Frank Wildhorn, to my voice, acting
and dance teachers, I get my inspiration from each and every one of these
people. I even get inspired seeing an audience enjoy a performance.
”
Over the summer, Jessica has been performing at Six Flags Over Texas in Dallas
and at many small town festivals and charity events such as the Pasadena
Strawberry Festival and
“Cure for Cancer for Kids.” Her hit Heartbeat reached number 12 on the Top 20 list on TweenPop-Radio.com. She has also been
featured as an emerging artist by TweenPop-Radio. She will return to Six Flags
for one more performance in September. Then it may be a while before she gets
back home. She will be busy establishing her career in Tinsel Town.
“Music and entertainment in general for me has provided so much happiness and
encouragement. I feel that it is so uplifting to the human spirit, and I have
such a love for it. I really want to foster that love that I feel for music,
and I hope that I can
—through the music and entertainment that I produce—give that feeling to others.
Remember the name—Jessica Ferguson. Fort Bend fans will be hearing a lot more from Jessica soon.
