Two Fort Bend ISD Students Named Top Winners in Texas History Day Program - Fort Bend ISD students Nikita Kansra of Travis High School and Christina Dillion of Clements High School were two of the top winners in this year’s Texas History Day Contest.
Nikita earned second place for her historical paper, Citizen of the World: The Actions and Legacies of Labor Activist and Socialist

. Christina received the Jane McCallum Women in Texas History Award for her
individual performance in
Dream for the Stars, Strive for the Dream: Individual Women in the Space Program, which addresses the obstacles women overcame to be active participants in the
space program.
Fort Bend ISD finalists included: Meredith Spalding, Carter Shults and Maggie McMeans of Fort Settlement Middle School (group performance); Subhash Gubba and Lawrence Wu of Sartartia Middle School (group documentary) and Travis Yeh of Sartartia Middle School (individual documentary).
Martha Earnest was named Lamar CISD Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Wessendorff MS Teacher Named Secondary Teacher of the Year- Martha Earnest, Wessendorff Middle School Life Skills Teacher, was been named Lamar CISD’s 2009 Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Marshall Student Selected for Membership in National Society of High School
Scholars
- Ciara Suesberry, an incoming senior at Marshall High School, has been selected for membership
in the National Society of High School Scholars. The society recognizes top
scholars and invites only those students who have achieved superior academic
excellence.
During the 2008-09 school year, Ciara was enrolled in GT pre-calculus classes, a
member of Student Council, Precious Pearls Girls
’ Club and softball team. She was also an Advancement Via Individual
Determination student and an Honor Roll student with recognition of achievement
in English and theater arts.
Ciara was notified by Creative Communication that her poem, Which Way? was selected to appear in the spring 2009 anthology, A Celebration of Poets. She will attend the 28th Honors Colloquium at the University of Texas at
Austin, a three-day program open to exceptional students from throughout the
state.
Missouri City Juneteenth Celebration Foundation Honors Scholarship Winners -The Missouri City Juneteenth Celebration Foundation recognized the recipients
of the organization
’s scholarship program during a reception at Unity Bank on Texas Parkway in
Missouri City. The scholarship recipients were
Nefertari Edwards, Enoch Brown III, Byron Duncan and Skylar Hunt.

Girl Scouts Learn Bollywood Dance - Anjali Center for Performing Arts introduced a group of Girl Scouts from
Rainbow Star Service Unit to Bollywood dancing, a dance-form used in Indian
films. Dance instructor Mahesh Mahbubani offered a complimentary class at Ellis
Creek in New Territory. He taught the girls a Bollywood dance routine to
Jai Ho from the Academy award-winning movie Slum Dog Millionaire.
A&E’s The Exterminators Visit Kempner High School Campus - The Exterminators from the real-life A&E TV series took time off from their busy schedule to visit with Kempner High
School student.
Billy Bretherton, founder of the Vexcon Exterminating Company, and his family make up the very
successful pest removal company located in Louisiana. Billy expressed the
importance of a fine education to students.
Texas District 18 Little League Baseball Winners - Lamar National Little League’s 9-year-old All Stars won both Area 3 and Texas District 18 championship games
that took place at Sunset Park in Rosenberg.
Sugar Land Soccer Club G97/98 Kickers
Sugar Land Soccer Club U11 Girls Win Texas State Championship - The Sugar Land Soccer Club G97/98 Kickers completed a highly successful season
with an overall record of 14-0-1. The team of Under 11 Girls competed as a
South Texas Youth Soccer Association and Houston Youth Soccer Association
Division 2 team.
During spring league play in HYSA, they completed a 7-0 season, scoring 24 goals
in those seven games, with four shutouts. This qualified the team as the No. 1
seed for the South Texas Cup Eastern District playoffs.
During these playoffs, the Kickers won their bracket and after winning their
semi-final game, went on to defeat the Texas Rage Soccer Club in the final,
4-2, to win the South Texas Cup Eastern District championship. This win
qualified the team for the state tournament.
While at the state tournament, the Kickers competed against teams from Conroe,
San Marcos and Boerne, defeating all three teams without giving up a single
goal. From this competition, the Kickers won and became the 2009 South Texas
Cup State Champions.
Gator Girls Take the Stingrays in Open Water - The Sugar Creek Gators’ open girls including Makenzie Boerner, Veronica Diana, Danielle Begnaud and Chandler Morrow took first place and the blue ribbon in the medley relay against the the Sienna
Plantation Stingrays.
Sugar Creek 6 and Under Take the Blue Ribbon - Swamping Sienna Plantation’s 6 and under girls in the freestyle relay were Sugar Creek Gator’s Abby, Beck, Mia and Makaylie.
