Fort bend isd special olympics receives grant. The CVS Caremark Community Grant to the Fort Bend ISD Special Olympics program is part of CVS Caremark’s commitment to its communities throughout the country. Fort Bend ISD Special Olympics offers softball, volleyball, bowling, basketball, track, soccer and tennis to athletes ages 8-22 who are students in the district  
Grants were awarded to organizations that share a common vision with CVS Caremark’s All Kids Can Program, which strives to make life easier for children with disabilities.
“CVS Caremark is committed to helping children with disabilities learn, play and succeed in life,” said Denny Tewell, area vice president, Texas, CVS/Pharmacy. “Through this grant, we are proud to be able to help make an impact on the lives of children in the Sugar Land community.”
The FBISD Falcons recently placed first in the state in coach pitched softball held in Bryan College Station. FBISD hosted the area volleyball tournament with the Falcons placing first in their pool.

clements prograd car raffle winner announced. Rose Davis of Sugar Land was thrilled to hear that her name was drawn in the Clements ProGrad raffle held during halftime at a Clements football game. She is now the proud owner of a 2009 Ford Mustang from Southern Auto Group. The winning ticket was sold by Clements senior Sara Davis, who earned a 17-inch LCD TV for selling the winning ticket.  
Arlene Catania, who chaired the ProGrad Car Raffle, credited the success of the fundraiser to the generosity of sponsors and the commitment of the seniors to sell 370 raffle tickets this year.
Other winners in the raffle included Kim Brueggerhoff, who won a $500 First Colony Mall gift card, and Sharon Dianiska, who won a $250 gift card for First Colony Mall.

A team of students from Elkins High School took top honors in the Can-Sculpting competition held at Sugar Land Town Square.
Can-Sculpting competition donates food to east fort bend human needs ministry. A team of students from Elkins High School was awarded first-place honors in Sugar Land Town Square’s second annual Can-Sculpting Competition. First-, second- and third-place teams received $1,000, $500 and $250 donations, respectively, to their charity of choice. All food items used in the competition were donated to the East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry.

FBJSL Presents Checks from 2008 Sugar Plum Market Proceeds. The Fort Bend Junior Service League, together with 2008 Sugar Plum Market title sponsor Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, presented three local Fort Bend County charities with a total of $111,000 in proceeds from this year’s event. Child Advocates of Fort Bend, Fort Bend County Women’s Center and the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County each received a check in the amount of $37,000.
Chris Siebenaler, CEO of Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, announced at this year’s market that Methodist will return as the title sponsor for the 2009 Sugar Plum Market. “We are honored to support the Sugar Plum Market and the many local charities that the event benefits,” said Siebenaler.
Melissa Hayslip, FBJSL president, said, “I was thrilled when Mr. Siebenaler announced that Methodist Sugar Land Hospital wanted to be the title sponsor for the Sugar Plum Market again in 2009. We enjoyed working with the Methodist Sugar Land Hospital staff very much and feel this was a wonderful partnership and look forward to a continued relationship.”

Gale and Dale Dacus
dew house donation in memory of dale and gale dacus. David Dacus, his sister, Brenda Foster, and their families made a generous life-time contribution in the memory of their parents, Gale and Dale Dacus, in support of the old Dew plantation house.
The Dacus’ were long-time Fort Bend County residents who were big believers in family, and leave a legacy of love in their grandchildren Cam and Alexis Foster, and Taylor, Travis and Chad Dacus.

quail valley golf course hosts top dog tournament. Winds in excess of 25 miles per hour and temperatures hovering in the 40s could not hinder the drive and determination of 18 golf competitors who participated in the Top Dog Tournament held at Quail Valley Golf Course.  
Spectators were chilled to the bone, yet eager to support their favorite player with applause and words of encouragement during this annual event, hosted by the Men’s Golf Association of Quail Valley Golf Course. The Top Dog Tournament features an elimination play-off format and includes the top 18 players with the largest point total from all of the tournaments during the 2008 season.
Top Dog participants included Neil Meier, Larry Hawkins, Tim Johnson, Dale McMath, Kevin Hattic, Tommy Howe, Stan Mohn, Steve Wells, Len Brogan, Randy Blackmon, Brian Thiel, Steve Bloch, Peter Newell, Mike Newell, Rich Akin, Steve Rubin, Dale Fuhr and Truman Nicholas.

Best in the west
dinner raises $300,000 for arc of fort bend.
Friends and neighbors demonstrated their loyalty and support for The Arc of Fort Bend at the 30th annual Best in the West dinner, dance and auction. The event raised approximately $300,000, which will be used to maintain group homes, fund activity and work centers, and provide training and transportation for the citizens with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
