MOZART’s REQUIEM PRESENTed by ST. LAURENCE CHAMBER SINGERS
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart died in poverty. A Requiem (Mass for the dead),
commissioned by Count Franz von Walsegg, was unfinished despite the composer
’s attempts to complete it before taking his final breath. Curiously, this count
was a known eccentric who had made a reputation for commissioning works by
composers and passing them off as his own. Therefore, Mozart
’s widow Constanze was motivated to have this work completed in secret, present
it to the Count, and collect the balance of the payment.
The St. Laurence Chamber Singers, under the direction of conductor Kevin Klotz,
will present Mozart
’s masterpiece Requiem at St. Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30
p.m. This deeply moving composition will be performed by a 40-member chorus and
a 20-piece professional orchestra. Admission is free of charge and a reception
will immediately follow the concert. For more information, visit
www.stlaurence.org or contact the parish office at 281-980-9812.

Farmers’ Market, every saturday
Wild West World first introduced the farmers’ market in April 2007, and it has been growing ever since. Is there anything
better than an organic homegrown tomato? The farmers bring jellies, watermelon,
blueberries and strawberries, olive oils, fresh tomatoes, potatoes, corn, okra,
breads even whiskey bread. They offer produce that is growing in this area. The
farmers educate their customers about the produce and products they are
purchasing and how it is different than what is purchased at the supermarket.
You can even start your own garden with the Herb Cottages organic pieces from
the WWW garden every Sunday from noon-4 p.m. Wild West World is located on FM
359 in Richmond. Please see more information on the farmers
