Child Advocates of Fort Bend invites you to come and celebrate in the Greek
tradition on May 9 at the Sugar Land Marriott Town Square the Ninth Annual CASA
Gala for the Children. Presented by Founders Bank and Memorial Hermann Sugar
Land, it promises to be an evening of feasting, dancing and revelry while
helping children.
Want to get in on the fun? The gala provides numerous opportunities to make a
difference in the life of a child including attending the event ($125/person
for reservations), donating an auction item or becoming a sponsor (sponsorships
range from $1,500 to $10,000) according to CAFB Executive Director Susie
Moseley. For more information, visit
www.cafb.org or call 281-344-5108.
The evening will feature live and silent auctions, Greek dancers, wandering
Greek goddesses, emcee radio and television personality Sam Malone, and dancing
to the sound of the Nite Beat Band announced gala chair Sharla Sturgeon. The
live auction committee, led by Nancy Pritchard, and silent auction chair Dawn
Meador are creating a group of fun and exciting packages. In anticipation of
the many auction treasures First Colony Self Storage has, once again,
generously donated space to store them.
Live auction offerings of travel, luxury and pampering include a wine locker
with wine for a year at Perry
’s Steakhouse & Grille in
|
Sugar Land Town Square and a relaxing gourmet food and wine weekend in the
country for 10 at a ranch on the Colorado River.
Other packages include golf for four at the Houstonian, Royal Oaks’ Fred Couples Signature Course and Escondido, and travel packages to Blue Sky
resort in Breckenridge and Ruidoso New Mexico.
At the very heart of this event is the belief that every child deserves a safe
and permanent home. CAFB serves children in Fort Bend County whose lives have
been torn apart by abuse or neglect through its two programs, Court Appointed
Special Advocates and the Children
’s Advocacy Center. With a force of more than 180 program volunteers, CAFB
touches the lives of more than 400 children each month.
If you are interested in becoming a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) or
Children
’s Advocacy Center volunteer, your chance is just around the corner. Volunteer
Training begins April 18. Volunteer candidates are asked to complete a 30-hour
training class to learn how to best advocate in these sensitive and
confidential cases. It may not be the easiest volunteer job around, but it is
the most rewarding. Basic requirements include being at least 21 years of age
and having a genuine concern for children. Call Carol Thesing at 281-344-5124
to schedule an interview.
