Living in the Lap of
BAYOU BEND HOMES
By Cathy Gordon
It’s little wonder that Riverstone in Fort Bend County was recently
named one of Houston’s top ten selling communities. Just take a look
at these custom gems, the ultimate in lakeside living.
Think splash and panache. A spirited group of custom homes in Fort Bend County’s Riverstone offers just that, packed with all the amenities needed to truly embrace lakeside living. From infinity pools, verandas, balconies, loggias, and extensive outdoor kitchens —all those features and more complement lakeside living in this master-planned community.
More than 6,000 visitors to last fall’s Riverstone Tour of Luxury custom home showcase were wowed by properties ranging from $1.4 million to $3.3 million, each with coveted Sugar Land addresses near or along the 110-acre Lake Riverstone. Intriguing architecture and designs by builders Bayou Bend Homes, Christopher Sims Custom Homes, Peterson Homebuilders, Sterling Classic and Westport were there for all to see.
“These are some of the only remaining custom homes in the area with a Sugar Land address, ” says Christen Johnson, director of marketing for Riverstone Development Co. Proceeds from the tour garnered more than $35,000 for local charities.
“Basically in the old days we used to think that if you did a nice kitchen and a nice master bathroom, that was the main thing that mattered, ” says Tom Neyland of Sterling Classic. “But nowadays we think that the family room is the key room because it’s the main gathering point. So the kitchen, family room, breakfast room, summer kitchen and outside pool area all work as a particular unit. Then the real question is, what do you do to spice up that particular area? ”
In Sterling Classic’s 6,983-square-foot Spanish-Mediterranean manor at 24 Sunset Park Lane in Hartford Landing, the summer kitchen received royal treatment with television sets that drop down from the ceiling for unobstructed views of the pool and lake. “We kept all the views open which isn’t always easy to do,” Neyland says.
Interior designer Jeanne Garland of The Design Source was behind the home’s decorative scheme, planning interior and exterior finishes and surfaces, as well as the home ’s furniture and accessories.
The formal dining room offers views of a wine vault with a sculptured gateway defined by wrought-iron doors. A kitchen with two islands can accommodate a large number of cooks and guests.
A magnificent fireplace in the master suite creates intimacy while a coffee alcove complete with built-in refrigerator offers a great start to the morning.
Christopher Sims Custom Homes crafted a three-story, 7,642-square-foot Acadian-style masterpiece at 24 Miramar Heights Circle in Crescent View Estates. Embracing the best of Louisiana architectural history, the design is timeless and elegant. Downstairs is devoted to family life with a centrally located great room, game room and theater. A fireplace separates the family room and kitchen that has two islands for additional workspace and seating. A private library offers the warmth of a fireplace, while the butler ’s pantry provides convenient access between the formal dining room and kitchen.
Walls of windows overlook an extensive outdoor living area with a sun terrace surrounding the pool and spa. A covered porch wraps around to an expansive loggia with fireplace, summer kitchen and serving

This home by Bayou Bend Homes at 28 Miramar Heights Circle offers extravagant amenities with Old World Gothic elegance. A beautifully carved fireplace is a focal point in the living room. Gothic Revival double front doors were designed by Keron Weathered of Designer Showcase and crafted with wood reclaimed from a downtown Chicago landmark.
