Expanding Girls Horizons in Science and Mathematics - Expanding Your Horizons, a day-long conference sponsored by the West Harris County chapter of the American Association of University Women, provided career information and role models for several Girl Scouts from Rainbow Stars Service Unit.
EYH was designed to nurture young women's interest in mathematics, science and technology careers, and to expand their career vision in these areas.
The event started with keynote speaker Tina V. Faraca, president of Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline, who inspired the audience with stories about how she has made a successful career for herself in a field that is usually exclusively populated by men.

Students enjoy the snow by making a “snow angel” as part of Snow Day at Southminster School.
Snow at Southminster School - The preschool students at Southminster School experienced a Houston snowstorm. Karen Rombach, director of the preschool, ordered snow to be placed in the courtyard of the school for a special snow day.
Throughout the month of January, teachers shared many stories and activities about snow. But, nothing was more fun for the students than experiencing it for themselves. Many students have never experienced snow. They rolled in it, tossed it in the sky and shared their cold fingers with their teachers.
Rombach says, “One of the important aspects of working with preschoolers is to provide learning opportunities that are active, hands-on and fun. Memories like these and the conversations that are built around these experiences are important foundational learning for the early childhood years. ”
