Bonna Kol, president/CEO of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, announced that the trustees of The George Foundation are providing a $2 million challenge grant along with land valued at $2 million
as a lead gift to the agency
’s campaign.
Dee Koch, grant officer of The George Foundation, stated “This gift is intended to leverage support for Catholic Charities so that the
agency may build a 24,000-square-foot Regional Community Service Center in Fort
Bend County, providing a Wellness Center for seniors and many of the social
services that are needed by the community
’s residents.”
The George Foundation’s grant is one of the largest gifts made to Catholic Charities in its 65-year
history, and represents an auspicious start towards a $20 million campaign. The
George Foundation
’s grant must be matched by $2 million in additional donations, given the $6
million cost of the new Regional Community Service Center.
Stan Marek, chairman of the campaign, states that Catholic Charities will use the new
center to bring resources to roughly 400 people per day, including those in
rural areas of the county who will be served through the center
’s satellite offices.
