This house is a head-turner, a one-story that shouts curb appeal with soft green
casement windows and decorative architectural details. A bricked driveway and
sidewalk lead to a front porch framed by archways. Breezy landscaping adds
contrast against a creamy stucco exterior.
“We love it here,” says Judy Christensen who shares the charming abode with husband, Terry, and
two feline companions.
“We came from a one-story and really loved the efficiency of it. We really wanted
another one-story. And there were a lot of other features that struck us about
this home. It just felt right for us.
”
Indeed, there’s plenty to love here. The interior reveals a light and bright open floor plan
with expansive views to the gardens, pool and an enticing pathway that wraps
around the property.
“We like an open floor plan,” says Terry of the 3,044- square-foot home that boasts three bedrooms, a study,
dining room, formal living, breakfast room, kitchen and sunroom. The home is
part of a luxury patio home series by Huntington Homes.
“People love these homes for their ease of living quality, the low maintenance
and carefree lifestyle,
” says Britt Martin, sales counselor for Huntington Homes. “The Christensens were the first to move into this neighborhood.”
The home’s location couldn’t be better for Terry, a retiree who loves to golf. “We’re on the second hole,” he says of their proximity to the Gary Player Signature Championship Golf
Course.
“I have to say, I really like that.”
With help from interior designer Terri Furce, the home finds balance in a mix of
cherished family pieces and new furnishings and accessories in warm tones.
“She helped us with other houses we’ve lived in,” says Judy, who readily admits leaning on Furce’s expertise. “She just has the eye, you know? We’ve really grown to trust her taste and ability to bring it all together.”
“That, and she really has a talent for incorporating things you already have,” adds Terry. “That’s really appreciated.”
“That is something I always do,” says the interior designer. “I place what they have and see where the dead spots are. Then we incorporate
things into those spaces.
”
Judy took a different decorating route with this house. “She tended to be more French Country in the other home and we kind of kept to
that style in the sunroom and breakfast room of this new home,
” explains Furce. “But in the family room and main areas, we really changed things up and went with
larger accessories and less of them. And Judy really loves red, something we
use in the house. But we updated the red with more of an orange tone.
”
“I definitely wanted warm colors,” says Judy. “We had a lot of red and gold in the other house and I was getting tired of that.”
The living room shows the new trend with a rusty orange-red dictating the color
scheme. New chenille sofas and a glass-top coffee table frame the space with a
beautiful rug underfoot.
Hardwood floors sweep through the home for a unified look. “Six guys worked on them,” says Terry. “They put three-quarter inch hardwoods in first, then came back and hand-scraped
them. The result is quite beautiful. But it was very labor intensive!
